Yushi (雨师, Yǔshī) was a kingdom that fell after a war with the kingdom of Xuli. Its last ruler was Yushi Huang.[1]

Description[]

While nothing is known about the appearance of the kingdom during its golden age, currently it is a rural, agrarian region in the South.

Yulong Hall was known as the royal cultivation centre of the kingdom. Here the disciples were trained through harsh asceticism. Even those of nobility and royal blood were not exempt from this rule.

History[]

Xuli – Yushi War[]

Before the two nations had a fallout, Xuli and Yushi maintained false peace with forced civility. The Xuli Kingdom would send a few esteemed royals, generals and civil officials to attend Yushi's national banquet and visit the royal cultivation hall in order to keep up the courtesy. During those times, Xuli had already planned to overthrow the nation and soon made up the claim that the king of Yushi was oppressing the people as an excuse to invade.[1]

"The King of Yushi was negligent and oppressive in his rule, and out of justice, Xuli shall save and rescue the suffering Yushi people." [1]

With Pei Ming leading the army, Xuli charged all the way to the palace gates. Although Xuli's army was strong enough to easily break into the palace, they decided to use a different tactic. They dressed up hundreds of Yushi's felons who were on death row as civilians and threatened to kill them should the king of Yushi not kowtow three times and end his life as atonement. They were given three days and every day a new group would be killed. If three days passed, they would charge into the palace and then kill the rest of the dressed up felons.[1]

The royal family had a big dispute about how to solve this conflict. None of the princes or princesses wanted to sacrifice themselves and neither did the king. His children tried to convince him to do it, but they failed. The panic in the palace escalated so far that one of the princes punched the king, resulting in him bleeding and being unable to get up. The princes and princesses were shocked, but continued to discuss how to drag the king's body outside and fulfill the conditions.[1]

At one point, Yushi Huang came up to the king and asked him to pass his title on to her. They held the most rushed succession ceremony and Yushi Huang, who was least likely to become the queen due to her status, took the throne of Yushi. Xuli's army was stunned as Yushi Huang came before the palace gates and slit her own throat. The soldiers couldn't stand to watch it and even tried to save her, but she soon died and ascended.[1]

Aftermath[]

Xuli kept their promise and didn't touch the civilians or royals for the moment,[1] however, it's mentioned that Xuli still overthrew the Yushi Kingdom.[2] The kingdom seemed to have been completely wiped out in the process, leaving behind a rural, agrarian piece of land.[3]

It became Yushi Huang's domain fairly soon after the war. She originally only stayed in the region because her heavenly palace had yet to be constructed,[3] but she never moved to the Heavenly Capital and remained in Yushi.
