Youth[]
Yin Yu was born into a renowned household of a very orthodox clan, grew up in a sect and was raised with the belief that ascension was the ultimate goal in life.[1] Later he became the eldest and a popular disciple of said sect. One day he met Quan Yizhen, who was ten years old at the time. Most likely out of pity of seeing him in a dirty state, as he was most likely an orphan, and noticing the fighting spirit in him, Yin Yu took Quan Yizhen under his wing and let him join their sect. While most disciples couldn't stand Quan Yizhen, Yin Yu always defended him and took good care of him.
Ascension[]
Yin Yu ascended as the Martial God of the West due to his cultivation and appointed Jian Yu and Quan Yizhen as his deputy generals. Unfortunately, due to Quan Yizhen's skills, he eventually managed to gain more followers than Yin Yu due to his many accomplishments such as defeating large monsters most people, even Yin Yu, couldn't handle. While this caused jealousy in Yin Yu, he understood it was not out of malicious intent when he showed off to Yin Yu and that Quan Yizhen was simply more talented than him.
Banishment[]
When Jian Yu gave Quan Yizhen the Brocade Immortal on Yin Yu's behalf, he immediately tried to retrieve it back. As he tried to do so, Quan Yizhen told him that he convinced Jun Wu to let Yin Yu come along on the patrol of the best Martial Gods. This triggered Yin Yu's built-up anger to explode, yelling at Quan Yizhen and causing the conflict to escalate. Due to the person wearing the Brocade Immortal following the order of the one who gave it to them, Quan Yizhen unintentionally severely harmed several Heavenly Officials under Yin Yu's command. While Yin Yu didn't mean for anyone to get hurt, the fight became too chaotic to control. Driven mad and unstable, Yin Yu couldn't take it anymore after Quan Yizhen came back to his senses and asked what was wrong, resulting in him telling Quan Yizhen to kill himself. However, Jun Wu takes Quan Yizhen out before he is able to do so. Under the eyes of many Heavenly Officials, they assumed Yin Yu purposefully gave him the Brocade Immortal Robe to murder Quan Yizhen and was banished [2]
It's unknown what happened to Yin Yu after banishment, but at one point he became Hua Cheng's servant.
Ghost City[]
Yin Yu first appears in the story when Xie Lian visits Ghost City, arriving as Lang Qianqiu and Xie Lian get into a brawl with a few other ghosts. He's wearing his typical ghost mask and is referred to as "XiaXianYue Officer" by other inhabitants of the city, who seem to also be frightened by him. This is however most likely due to the fact that he is known for working for Hua Cheng and not because they are scared of him as a person on his own. He steps in and tells the ghost to stop their aggression, followed by him approaching Xie Lian and telling him that Hua Cheng would like to see him. As they both make their way to Paradise Manor, Xie Lian notices a Cursed Shackle on Yin Yu's wrist.
