Summary[]
Xie Lian catches the child who fell from the city wall. He’s about seven or eight years old, the child also has a bandage wrapped on his left eye. With his uncovered black eye, he’s staring at Xie Lian intensely.
The crowd gasp when his golden mask falls down. Xie Lian’s father is worried because the ceremony stopped abruptly, meanwhile the Queen of Xianle pales from fear.
Xie Lian gestures to Mu Qing to continue the act with him, to which he cooperates. Mu Qing grabs back the golden mask secretly and advises to pretend as if nothing is happening.
In the whole duration of the play, the child stays in Xie Lian’s arms while he spars with Mu Qing. They soon after return to the Palace when the ceremony is over. Feng Xin asks why Xie Lian brought the child over.
Xie Lian tries to give the child to Feng Xin to check his wounds, however he doesn’t budge. The Crown Prince urges the child to go since he has things to do, with no choice, he lets go and goes with Feng Xin.
An hour later; Xie Lian, Mu Qing and Feng Xin are kneeling before Guoshi. The old man explains that never in the history of Xianle did the ShanYuan ceremony circle the capital only three times. The kingdom would probably be protected for only three years.
Xie Lian explains that if he didn’t save the child then he would’ve died, so it would be equally ominous and a sign of bad luck. Guoshi is baffled that he talked back to him.
Xie Lian’s teacher adds one more thing, he asks why the Crown Prince didn’t inform he would be late today at the ceremony. Xie Lian answers that he asked Mu Qing to inform him. However, Guoshi says he never mentioned such a thing.
