While his name was not even mentioned, he unknowingly assisted Xie Lian during one of his darkest periods and was the one who restored his faith in people.
Appearance[]
Not much is known about his appearance, but he wore a bamboo hat and a large basket filled with rice on his back.[1]
Personality[]
Although only appearing shortly, it's apparent that he's an extremely impulsive person. He's easily frustrated and openly expresses his anger, showing no problem insulting and screaming at people he just met.
Despite his aggressive behavior however, he has a considerate side to him, as he gifts Xie Lian his bamboo hat to protect him from the rain. After blowing off steam, he's able to talk in a calm matter and recognize his own rudeness. He's even seen to be supportive of those who seem pitiful, motivating Xie Lian to finally get up.[1]
History[]
While Xie Lian was lying in the road pit in the streets of Lang-Er Bay, he accidentally fell into the pit when he was running through pouring raining. He was startled upon seeing Xie Lian next to him, causing the rice he had just bought to spill everywhere, which infuriates him deeply. He yells at Xie Lian that it's his fault and demands to be paid back. He tells him that if he wants to die, he shouldn't block the roads like that while doing so. The farmer continues to shake at Xie Lian, who's unable to show any emotion. After he notices that it's useless to yell at him, he picks up his bamboo hat and leaves.
Unexpectedly, he comes back only moments after, putting his bamboo hat on Xie Lian to shield him from the rain. It's hinted that he feels guilty for his previous behavior, recognizing that what he said was inappropriate and that Xie Lian doesn't have to pay him back. Although he still thinks Xie Lian deserved the lecture, Xie Lian shouldn't act so sullen just because he got cussed at. Pointing out how miserable Xie Lian looks, he tells him to get up already. Xie Lian doesn't say a word when the farmer is talking to him, completely in awe that someone was actually helping him.
With force, he finally manages to pull Xie Lian up. The farmer slaps him harshly on the back two times and tells him to go home before immediately disappearing. This interaction single-handedly restores Xie Lian's faith in people. He makes up his mind, refusing to become corrupted despite the suffering he endured.[1]
Xie Lian wears his bamboo hat to this day, holding it dear to his heart.
