Childhood[]

Many hundred years ago, Shi Qingxuan was born as the second son to a wealthy merchant household.[1] His older brother, Shi Wudu, was six years older than him.

As a celebration for his birth, the family distributed porridge to the hungry to build merit. A fortune-teller who ate the oatmeal told his fortune as compensation, telling Shi Qingxuan's parent to raise him to be boisterous, not give him any chance to shine and never hold a feast for him as it will bring something bad.[1]

They didn't take this fortune seriously and a few days later held a feast in their son's honor where a Reverend of Empty Words latched on the baby and cursed him to have a wretched beginning and end. That night, Shi Qingxuan fell into a terrible sickness.[1]

Shi Qingxuan's parents consulted a fortune-teller who advised them to pretend to give Shi Qingxuan away to another family and disguise him as a kept daughter before bringing him back in. The Shi family complied and raised Shi Qingxuan as a girl to confuse the Reverend.[1]

During the first ten years of his life, the Shi family gradually declined and internal conflict rose over inheritance after the death of their parents when Shi Qingxuan turned ten. To escape these familial conflicts, Shi Wudu took his little brother to leave the house, and they began living depending on each other.[1]

Shi Wudu began cultivating under a master in a mountain and settled Shi Qingxuan in a town on the foot of the mountain. One day Shi Wudu forgot the time and didn't come home for dinner so Shi Qingxuan took the food up the mountain.[1]

On the way, he needed to relieve himself on the side of the road after the long walk. The Reverend appeared and asked him about his identity and after Shi Qingxuan confirmed his name and birthday, the Reverend attacked him.[1]

After that, the two brothers lived under the terror of the Reverend for years, who played around with Shi Qingxuan like a hunter would its prey. But the brothers' luck turned when Shi Wudu finally ascended as a Heavenly Official. He immediately took Shi Qingxuan to the Middle Court, thus freed from the Reverend's curse.[1]

But in truth, Shi Qingxuan was not meant to ascend. Shi Wudu found a mortal of the same name and birthday who incidentally was fated to ascend. This man, Scholar He, took the misfortune that was supposed to be Shi Qingxuan's and suffered to death after losing all of his family members in various gruesome manners. Meanwhile, Shi Qingxuan usurped his luck and successfully ascended.[2]

Middle Court Official[]

After Shi Wudu ascended as Water Master, he took Shi Qingxuan with him to become an Official of the Middle Heaven. Even with his new status Shi Qingxuan still liked to dally around and drink wine carefreely.

One day as he was spread out drunkenly on the terrace, happy and carefree, a malicious crook who often bullied good villagers below the deck. When Shi Qingxuan saw him, he spilled the delicate wine in his cup with a little spell that knocked the crook right out. This is where his title Young Master Who Poured Wine originated.

It was also during one of these carefree, drunken days that Shi Qingxuan ascended as the Wind Master.

Banyue Pass[]

Shi Qingxuan takes on his female form and travels to the Banyue Pass alongside Ming Yi. She summons a powerful sandstorm along the way to keep Xie Lian and his group away from the ancient kingdom, although the attempt fails.[3] While Shi Qingxuan and Ming Yi run through the storm, they are spotted by Xie Lian and the rest for a quick moment.[4]

Later on the two make it to the Banyue ruins and actually notice Xie Lian and the others, although they don't recognize them. Shi Qingxuan and Ming Yi follow them, but the group quickly hides. Ming Yi is about to investigate the house where Xie Lian and San Lang are hiding, but Nan Feng causes an explosion on the other side to distract them. Shi Qingxuan immediatly runs after Nan Feng when he tries to flee.[5]

Shi Qingxuan and Ming Yi eventually figure out who Nan Feng is and return to the Banyue ruins with him, where they listen in on Pei Xiu's confession down in Sinner's Pit. After having heard everything, Shi Qingxuan summons a strong wind to carry the people out of the pit. She arrests Pei Xiu, as well as Ke Mo, for their crimes and plans to take them with her. She lets Xie Lian take Ban Yue with him and advises him to stay out of the matter from now on before quickly disappearing with Ming Yi and the captives.[3]

Ghost City[]

Shi Qingxuan is sent to the Ghost City by Jun Wu, alongside Lang Qianqiu and Xie Lian. The mission is to investigate the call for help in the shape of an Ascending Fire Dragon spell sent by a Heavenly Official.[6]

Shi Qingxuan rendezvoused with Xie Lian in front of the Xianle Palace and together traveled to the Ghost Realm where they will meet with Lang Qianqiu. He used his female form because according to him, it's easier to go unnoticed in the Ghost City, as they have higher yin energy. [7]

However, he gets abducted by a group of female ghosts, consequently he loses Xie Lian. Fortunately they coincidentally meet again in the Gambler's Den. He informs Xie Lian that Lang Qianqiu will come to this place soon. When he does show in the Gambler’s Den, Lang Qianqiu makes a scene, this makes Shi Qingxuan speechless that he made himself noticed by everyone.

Black Water Demon Xuan[]

Reverend of Empty Words[]

Accompanied by Ming Yi, Shi Qingxuan visits Xie Lian to ask him for help to fight the Reverend of Empty Words.

Black Water Demon Lair[]

As his brother is passing his third Heavenly Calamity, Shi Qingxuan and the others are transported to the Black Water Demon Lair, the domain of He Xuan.
