Scorpion Snakes (蝎尾之蛇, Xiē Wěi Zhī Shé) are a rare type of snake that can only be found in the region near Banyue kingdom. The people of Banyue are commonly terrified of this snake, which made the head priestess of Banyue a highly feared and worshiped figure due to her ability to control the snakes through black magic.
Description[]
This type of snake has a translucent skin that shows its red organs interrupted by black lines. Its tail is a segment of hard, flesh-colored layers (like the tail of a scorpion) and ends in a flesh-colored needle.[1]

Bite of the Scorpion Snake
The strength of Scorpion Snake's venom is said to be the combined power of a snake's and a scorpion's. Being bitten by one meant a certain, painful death within four hours. The only remedy for Scorpion Snake's venom are leaves of Shan Yue plant, a type of mint leaves which can only be found inside the Kingdom of Banyue.
Legend[]
Many hundred years ago a king caught two spirits born of a scorpion and a snake while on a hunt. Believing the two spirits[2] would cause havoc sooner or later because of their venomous nature, the king decided to take them back to be executed despite the spirits begging him not to.
During a festivity the king forced the two spirits to mate in front of a drunken audience and executed them afterward. The queen who felt pity for the two poor spirits, but can't go against the will of the king, covered their corpses with a Shanyue leaf.
The spirits became malicious ghosts and cursed the descendant born of their mating to forever remain in Banyue kingdom and destroy its people. However, the Shanyue leaf that she used to cover them in an act of kindness by the queen became the only antidote to their venom.[1]

In Chinese belief, everything is created by qi which is the original building block and thus inanimate beings can be possessed by a spirit or cultivate a spirit. As quoted from a disciple of Zhu Shi: “Between Heaven and Earth there is nothing that does not consist of yin and yang, and there is no place where yin and yang are not found. Therefore, there is no place where gods and spirits do not exist.” [1]
