Rong Guang (容广, Róng Guǎng) is the childhood friend and former deputy general of Pei Ming. He has now become a ghost combined with Pei Ming's past sword Ming Guang to seek revenge against him.[1]

Appearance[]

His appearance is not described in the novel, and he has yet to appear in a visual adaptation.

Personality[]

Rong Guang is an extremely cunning and persuasive person. He's very deceptive and knows how to use manipulation to his advantage. It's said that he was a proud follower of Pei Ming and a good, loyal deputy general. He also had strong ties with other soldiers.[1] After turning into a ghost, he became extremely vicious and vengeful. He frequently uses vulgar speech, although not in a senseless matter, and he is still sharp-witted with his words.

He takes on a natural leader role as well, shown when he was able to convince the ghosts to announce their titles and thus expose potential Heavenly Officials among them. The ghosts were amazed by his idea and even applaud him.[2]

History[]

Xuli Rebellion[]

Rong Guang hailed from the kingdom of Xuli along with Pei Ming. They grew up as childhood friends and later entered the army together, Rong Guang becoming Pei Ming's deputy general and right-hand man. He was the main force behind the Xuli Rebellion, organizing a coup d'état to invade the Imperial Palace, overthrow the king and have Pei Ming take the throne. Due to his strong bond with his troops and fellow soldiers, it was easy for Rong Guang to persuade them into the revolt.[1]

However, Pei Ming himself was against this rebellion as he did not wish to become king, thus he followed after them to the palace to stop them. This resulted in him killing his own soldiers, one of which was most likely Rong Guang.[1] After his death, Rong Guang's resentful spirit fused with the Ming Guang sword Pei Ming had snapped before ascending as they both harbored vengeful feelings against him.[3]

Gathering of the Ghosts[]

Rong Guang takes on the fake identity of the "Demon of the Swift Life-Extinguishing Blade" and pretends to be a spirit of an executioner's decapitation blade.[2]

Relationships[]

Pei Ming[]

"One in the light, one in the shadows, their relationship spanned years, a friendship made of steel." [1]

Rong Guang is Pei Ming's childhood friend and former deputy general. It's said that although they have contrasting and very different personalities, they got along very well and their cooperation worked exceedingly well. Pei Ming's most treasured and famous sword, Ming Guang, is a combination of their names as a symbol of their friendship. Rong Guang was incredibly loyal to Pei Ming and followed him gladly. He, along with other soldiers, wished that Pei Ming became king, and he played a major part in organizing a revolt to take down the current king and have Pei Ming replace him.

However, Pei Ming never cared for that position and in the end, killed all his subordinates who had been part of the revolt, including Rong Guang. Rong Guang's spirit became incredibly resentful towards Pei Ming and he possessed the broken Ming Guang sword, surviving centuries to achieve revenge against Pei Ming. Although he was determined to kill Pei Ming, he was still thrilled as they fought together later on and tries to convince him to join forces once again.
