Puqi Shrine Talks, Guileful Tales of Banyue Pass II (菩荠观诡谈半月关, Pújì Guān Guǐ Tán Bànyuè Guān) is the 18th chapter of the Heaven Official's Blessing novel.
Summary[]
While the cultivator drinks, Xie Lian can hear the sound of the water falling through like his body is empty. He stops the cultivator from drinking which causes him to panic. He makes a futile effort to attack Xie Lian with a sword, but is grabbed by the latter. His arm in the grip deflates and he tries to run.
Before he can make it outside, San Lang throws a chopstick and nails him to the door through his stomach. The two look at the body, which has completed shriveled and deflated.
The cultivator turns out to be an empty shell, a form created by gods or ghosts that functions similarly to a puppet. This one was exceedingly realistic, so they conclude whoever made it must be very skilled. The intentions were obviously to lure Xie Lian to Banyue to investigate, so he visits the spiritual communication array to gain more information.
The array is extremely lively, many gods happy and shouting. Ling Wen greets him and informs him that the excitement is because of the Wind Master giving out merits after just having returned. Xie Lian asks if someone knows of Banyue Pass, which has the array fall dead silent. The gods ignore him and quickly concentrate on the merits again.
Ling Wen asks why he wants to know about Banyue, but she can't seem to speak on the matter easily.
Xie Lian exits the array and informs San Lang he will go on a long journey, who asks to come along right away. San Lang explains that two hundred years ago, the Kingdom of Banyue used to be located where the Banyue Pass is, as well as that it used to have a "wicked cultivator", but before he can finish there is a knock on the door.
Xie Lian opens to the door to find Fu Yao and Nan Feng outside. The two heard about Banyue in the array and volunteer once more to help him out. Just as Xie Lian invites them inside, both of their faces grow dark and Nan Feng tells him to stand back.
