Heavenly Officials[]
Pei Ming[]
Ling Wen and Pei Ming share a close friendship to the point where others would misinterpret their relationship as a romantic one. This has led to many mortal plays depicting the two as such[1][2][3] They are both part of the Three Tumours and thus disliked by many, to the point Pei Ming couldn't recall anyone specific who has a grudge against them simply because there are too many.[2]
Ling Wen would often team up with Shi Wudu to make fun of Pei Ming's terrible reputation as a womanizer who has however many children in the mortal realm[1], and he would in turn poke fun at her past as a shoe-seller maiden.[2] But Pei Ming was shown to care deeply for her as he was worried when he saw her walking with Xie Lian who, up until that point, had caused Pei Ming and Shi Wudu's downfall and fear that would happen to her too [4][5]. Another example is when Ling Wen is captured alongside the Brocade Immortal, and in his concern attempts to peel it off, worried about the further harm that the latter might cause to the former. This lead Pei Ming to suffer a nasty hand wound, attempting to yank the robe from Ling Wen's collar. Whilst warned about the inappropriateness of this situation by Xie Lian and Hua Cheng, Pei Ming is unbothered and notes that in that moment it is fine due to Ling Wen being in male form. This suggests a closeness and comfortableness that only exists between those that can share a hotsprings together [1][6].
Pei Ming was the one who lent her the manpower to harass Jing Wen's followers and burn his temple, causing the decline of Temple of Jing Wen and starts her ascension as the foremost Civil God [2]. Despite this, it is not until her betrayal and capture at Mount Tonglu does Pei Ming find out that she was the one responsible for the decline of Xuli. Upon finding out, Pei Ming is not angry, and instead jokes to her that his feelings are hurt [6].
Even after she betrayed the Heavenly Courts and attempted to offer him to join her, the two continue to have a relatively stable relationship.
Shi Wudu[]
Shi Wudu and Ling Wen shared a very close friendship. They are both part of the Three Tumors and thus disliked by many. The pair would often team up to tease Pei Ming, but wouldn't mind turning to kick each other and laugh about it.
Both shared a deep bond of trust. When Shi Wudu was informed of Shi Qingxuan being in danger, he took Ling Wen and Pei Ming to look for him. One of the rare time Ling Wen was shown to be shaken to the point of yelling was when Shi Wudu's life was threatened by his third heavenly tribulation.[7] Later on, it was revealed that Ling Wen helped with covering up the scandalous nature of Shi Qingxuan's ascension for Shi Wudu.
Xie Lian[]
Ling Wen is professional and calm toward Xie Lian.[8] Their relationship went back to before Xie Lian's first ascension where she would help him to run errands. He appreciates her for being well-informed and hardworking.[9] But even after centuries of knowing each other, their relationship never went deeper and stayed professional.[5]
When Xie Lian ascended for the third time, Ling Wen was his strongest supporter along with Jun Wu, willing to even try to trick other gods into helping Xie Lian by making it seems like a request from the Heavenly Emperor.[10] In turn, Xie Lian trusted her so much that his first reaction after any altercation was reporting to the Court through her.[4]
Jun Wu[]
Ling Wen was Jun Wu's right hand[11] and most trusted underling after Xie Lian. She could be found standing by the side of his throne on every court session.[12] She always seemed to know Jun Wu's current location and was entrusted with the management of the Heavenly Court whenever he stepped out to patrol the mortal world. They even have the password for each other's personal communication array and seemed to be communicating regularly. [13]
Jun Wu was well-attuned to Ling Wen's personality that he could pinpoint when she felt upset even though she didn't show it on her face. Later on, after his true identity has been revealed, he recalled her back to heaven to once again work as his second in command because he felt no one was as effective as her as a Civil Goddess.[11]
Heavenly Officials[]
Despite being a Civil God herself, she is notably very unpopular amongst her peers. The other Civil Gods are openly known to gossip about her, accusing her of sleeping her way to power, or using her popularity with the martial gods or a mixture of both.
Conversely she is on friendly terms with the marital gods. This divide can be seen especially during the Lantern Festival as the Martial Gods congratulate her and the rest of the Civil Gods give her a side eye.
Ghosts[]
Bai Jing[]
Bai Jing is a very old, close friend of Ling Wen. She was the woman he fell deeply in love with as well as the first person to ever show him affection. She was aware of how mistreated Bai Jing was by Xuli regardless of his important position as a general in the kingdom, as she explained that a genuine heart could only be trampled by others.[14] She was actually the one who gave him the name "Bai Jing" in the first place since he was only referred to as "Xiao Bai" by Xuli, a term to call someone idiotic.[5]
Ling Wen ultimately killed Bai Jing to accelarate the fall of Xuli. Yet despite that, she has always speaks in a fond manner towards him and he holds no grudge against her for it either. In fact, he is extremely protective of her and it is implied that while he was still mortal, he was willing to die for her. From the conversation she has with Xie Lian, it is evident that the Brocade Immortal is actually Bai Jing's ashes that he gifted to her. While in the legend she allegedly forged the robe herself, it is suggested that he actually became an object of protection after his death and only turned into a savage device later after being misused by others.[14] She planned to give him back a physical body through Tonglu Mountain's trial, slaughtering thousands of ghosts to achieve so, showing how much she cares about him despite the rumors that she mercilessly murdered him in the past.[14]
