Lantern Riddles; Yuan Xiao Night (花灯谜,元宵夜, Huā Dēngmí, Yuánxiāo Yè) is the 245th chapter of the Heaven Official's Blessing novel.
Summary[]
Walking through a street in Ghost City during a Yuanxiao festival, Xie Lian spies a stall selling yuanxiao. It reminds him of a similar stall during a Yuanxiao festival night when he first started collecting scrap. During the flashback, he recalls he was a picky eater when he was little and did not like yuanxiao. Yet he couldn't remember what it tasted like from his childhood. The stall owner took pity on Xie Lian and provided him a bowl of yuanxiao for free. Xie Lian recalls eating the sweet soup, but still doesn't remember the taste.
Hua Cheng calling him brings him back to the present. As they continue walking down the main street, a crowd of ghosts attract the pair's attention with their exclamations of riddle games. Xie Lian tries the games, which are a series of Chinese word riddles. He uncovers the first three words of the phrase, with each riddle becoming successively harder. He laments on the fourth riddle, that though it was the hardest riddle, he couldn't have the fun of unraveling it as he already put together the phrase: My husband is Hua Cheng.
Hua Cheng frightens away the ghosts and insists to Xie Lian that it wasn't him who set up the ghosts with those riddles. Xie Lian believes him and, upon answering Hua Cheng's prompt, gets tricked into saying aloud that Hua Cheng would've designed the riddles to say "my husband is San Lang". By then, the two have returned to Qiandeng Temple where await them two bowls of yuanxiao. Hua Cheng reveals he noticed Xie Lian's attention on the stall when they were walking. Xie Lian hugs Hua Cheng and finally remembers the taste of yuanxiao.
