Childhood[]

Lang Qianqiu is the crown prince of Yong'an a few generations after the founder king Lang Ying. When he was twelve, he was kidnapped by a rebel group of Xianle descendants. The imperial guard sent to save him fought the rebel group in a brawl that would have killed the prince if not for an intervening street performer. The street performer ended the brawl and saved Lang Qianqiu with a few swings of a tree branch. This street performer soon became the State Preceptor of Yong'an, titled Fang Xin. He taught Lang Qianqiu swordsmanship for five years until his seventeenth birthday.[1]

Lang Qianqiu ran late to the Gilded Banquet held in his honor. He arrived to a scene of carnage where every Yong'an nobility has been massacred and Fang Xin was killing his father. Fang Xin confessed that he did it because he could not stand seeing the Yong'an royalty sitting in the throne, leading him to be blamed for the massacre.[2] In reality this massacre was planned and carried out by Prince An Le, Qi Rong and Xianle-descent rebel group. They killed the Yong'an nobility but was driven away by Fang Xin, leaving only the king alive but mortally wounded. The king asked Fang Xin to order the army to massacre every civilian of Xianle descent. Fang Xin killed him to protect the civilians at which point Lang Qianqiu arrived.[3]

This massacre caused a huge blow to the kingdom and the only reason riots don't break out was Lang Qianqiu holding the people's trust. After the chaos calmed down, Yong'an released a bounty for Fang Xin. Captured and dragged back to the palace, Lang Qianqiu staked him alive into a three-layered coffin and sealed him underground.[1][4]

Despite Lang Qianqiu's hard work, the root of Yong'an royalty was damaged. The dynasty declined until it was taken over by another clan.

Banyue Pass[]

Lang Qianqiu first appears when Xie Lian is on his way to the Great Martial Hall in order to attend the trial regarding the Banyue Pass incident. One of his attendants brings him his hall pass that he forgot. During this, he takes notice of Xie Lian behind them. He cheerfully returns the greeting Xie Lian gives him.[5]

He falls asleep in the trial, which is only noticed after Jun Wu disbands the meeting and asks the Heavenly Officials to leave. He only wakes up after Xie Lian shakes him awake after the meeting was disbanded.[6]

Ghost City[]

Lang Qianqiu, alongside Shi Qingxuan and Xie Lian, is sent to Ghost City in order to investigate the call for help in the shape of an Ascending Fire Dragon spell sent by a Heavenly Official.[7]

Lang Qianqiu agrees to rendezvous with the other two in the Gambler's Den, but he quickly blows his cover by assaulting a man who was about to sell his daughter's life in a bet against Hua Cheng. Lang Qianqiu shames the man for using his daughter for greed and then asks Hua Cheng if he’s the owner of the Gambler’s Den.[8]

One of the ghosts in the background responds that he owns the entire territory, which makes Lang Qianqiu even more angry and states Hua Cheng has no humanity in him for owning such a place. After much resistance, he gets hung up on the ceiling by Hua Cheng.[8]

Lan Qianqiu tries to fight Hua Cheng without revealing the fact he’s a heavenly official. Unfortunately, he gets lifted up to the air and gets hanged on the ceiling by Hua Cheng. Lang Qianqiu’s face becomes flushed because he has never seen this type of humiliation before. He struggles but it’s useless. Hua Cheng says if anyone wins they can get him, much to the ghosts delight. Lang Qianqiu yells he’s not a “Thing” and they dare to use him as a bet. In response, many female ghosts giggled and give him lewd expressions.[8]

Xie Lian tries to win Lang Qianqiu back by betting against Hua Cheng. The ghost king teaches him numerous times on how to have the correct posture for gambling. Lang Qianqiu says loud enough that Hua Cheng might be playing with Xie Lian. He must be also trying to cheat. One of the female ghosts warns him that if he keeps up the commotion she’ll take off his pants. Lang Qianqiu doesn’t dare to say anything more.[9]

Xie Lian wins against him and Lang Qianqiu falls from above. Xie Lian checks on him to see if he’s alright.[9] After having a discussion with Hua Cheng, Xie Lian grabs Lang Qianqiu to leave the Gambler’s den. The two of them run until they reach a quiet alley. Shi Qingxuan joins them immediately after. Lang Qianqiu thanks him for saving him. He is soon left alone while he’s thinking why would Hua Cheng arrest them off guard.[10]
