The King of Xianle (仙乐国王, Xiānle Guówáng), whose name was never revealed, is Xie Lian's father and the former and last king of Xianle.

Appearance[]

During the golden age of Xianle, he was a dignified, ‌handsome‌ ‌looking man. [1] However, when Xianle started to fall apart, his hair was mostly white and he appeared to be over fifty years old.[2]

Personality[]

The King of Xianle was proud, but nevertheless caring towards his loved ones.

He seemed to have a traditional views, such as the royality was far more important than a mere servant. For instance, when Qi Rong got his arm broken by Feng Xin, the King of Xianle ordered him to be punished.[3]

When Yong'an was rioting against Xianle, the King of Xianle became more angry and would lash out at soldiers. The stress of taking care of both sides was too much for him.[4]

He was stubborn with his views and morals, and he would never lower his dignity to achieve something or would resort to unethical means. When the kingdom of Xianle fell, Xie Lian and Feng Xin never told him they obtained medication by busking, or else he would’ve refused them right away.[5] Before his death, he refused to use the gold and silver wares obtained by Xie Lian because his son stole them from another household. [6]

History[]

In Xianle's glorious days, he ruled the country as a king would. His kingdom had a great amount of fortune, making other countries look in envy. He controlled the kingdom with logic, similar to when Yong'an was suffering from drought but he ignored the situation. The reason was it was useless to help. However, things went downhill when Yong'an started to win more battles against Xianle. Soon after, the King of Xianle lost his country.

After Xie Lian’s first banishment and the downfall of Xianle, the King became ill and needed medication for his treatment. He coughed blood, felt cold constantly and his hair became white. He lived with his wife in a secluded house in order not to attract Yong'an soliders, who were looking for them.[7]

He committed suicide with his wife, the former Queen of Xianle after Xie Lian's first banishment, using a white silk band that is now Xie Lian's spiritual weapon, Ruoye.[6]

Relationships[]

Queen of Xianle[]

The two shared a steady, loving relationship. When the Queen of Xianle was crying because Xie Lian was suffering under the scorching sun while he held the Celestial‌ ‌Pagoda‌, the King put his hands on her shoulders as comfort.[2]

Xie Lian[]

He had a bad relationship with his son and the two often argued, and so avoided each other, but the king still loved him deeply. He hated his son seeing him weak, trying to hide his illness from him while on the run and dying his grey hair black.[8]

Qi Rong[]

Even though the King of Xianle is less affectionate than the Queen of Xianle, he got upset when Qi Rong's arm broke due to Feng Xin's kick. However, that reason could be because Feng Xin was a servant and he dared to kick a royal. [3]
