Heaven Official Blessing (天官赐福, Tiān Guān Cì Fú) is the first chapter of Heaven Official's Blessing written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu.
Summary[]
The prologue roughly tells the story of a young god that became the laughing stock of the three realms and is also the protagonist of the novel, Xie Lian.
He is introduced as the beloved but strange crown prince of Xianle, an incredibly prosperous nation. Yet despite his position and wealth, Xie Lian only cared for saving the common people.
There were two infamous stories about him when he was seventeen.
The first took place at the Lantern Festival while he was playing the role of the God-Pleasing Warrior. During the third round of the Heavenly Ceremonial Procession, a child suddenly fell from the city walls. Xie Lian jumped and caught it, earning him the adoration of the crowd but frustration of the State Preceptors. They warned him that this will bring misfortune, but Xie Lian saw nothing wrong with his actions.
The second story took place at Yi Nian Bridge where a fearsome ghost had been lingering for centuries. It would ask passing travellers three questions and devour everyone who answered incorrectly. When Xie Lian heard of this he went to the bridge and waited until he finally met the ghost. Before he was even asked the second question, Xie Lian had pulled out his sword and fought the ghost.
It was chaotic, but Xie Lian ultimately stood victorious. A cultivator, who turns out to be the Heavenly Martial Emperor, soon came by and asked what he was doing to which Xie Lian responded with his infamous phrase: "Body in the abyss, heart in paradise."
He ascended that very night and his palace became glorious and prosperous quickly, but his kingdom would soon face doom.
As war waged in his nation, Xie Lian decided to go against Heaven's rules and descend with the determination to save everyone. However, he only made things worse and the war became even more aggressive. After a plague also swept through Xianle, the rebels proclaimed victory and the kingdom of Xianle lost.
Since Xie Lian only caused the conflict to escalate and couldn't help anyone, the people began to hate him. His temples were burned and he gained the title "God of Misfortune". He was banished to the mortal realm and experienced poverty for the first time in his life, giving up on himself completely.
But Xie Lian soon ascended a second time, immediately charging to the Heavens and rampaging in fury. In the span of an incense time, he was banished again.
Everyone looked at him with contempt after that, but they were also shocked when they saw Xie Lian adjusting to life in the mortal realm and becoming a busker and trash collector. At first the world laughed about him, using his name as an insult towards others, yet as time passed the world gradually forgot about him.
Now, eight hundred years later, Xie Lian ascends once more.
