Fang Xin (芳心剑, Fāngxīn Jiàn) is Xie Lian's sword. It originally belonged to White No-Face.[1]

Appearance[]

"The cold steel was every bit as dangerous and icy as the coldest winter night." [1]

Fang Xin was dark like a black jade, with a long, slender and extremely sharp blade that was smoother than a mirror.[2] Its grain pattern reflected the light in a crisp sliver line. A thick, frigid aura surrounded it. When Xie Lian first saw it, he estimated that it's extremely rare, and he would do anything to obtain it.[1]

History[]

Xie Lian first encountered Fang Xin when he was caught by White No-Face and tied up in his own temple. He also imprisoned inside a lot of townspeople, infecting them with the Human Face Disease and saying that the only cure was manslaughter. Then he took out Fang Xin and stabbed Xie Lian in the abdomen, saying that his body is immortal. In the beginning people were unwilling to fall that far, but after the disease started spreading, they took Fang Xin and stabbed Xie Lian one by one.[1]

After Xie Lian came to after the whole ordeal, White No-Face strapped Fang Xin to his waist, gifting it to him and saying that it will be much sharper than any blade he got from Jun Wu. When he came back home, he told Feng Xin to pawn it, but the man said he didn't need the money anymore, so the sword was tossed aside.[3]

Later on he used the sword to seal inside resentful spirits of fallen Xianle soldiers. He planned on unleashing them in revenge on the people of Yong'an, which would cause them to get the Human Face Disease. Before that happened, Xie Lian stabbed Fang Xin again into his own abdomen, laying for three days in a ditch, asking people to save him.[4] Nobody came to save him and White No-Face pulled the sword out. When Xie Lian finally lost all hope in humanity and was reaching for the sword to unleash the curse, a man that previously cussed at him gave him his bamboo hat to hide him from rain and pulled him up from the pit.[5]

Xie Lian came back to himself and attacked White No-Face, but was promptly beaten and the curse held in Fang Xin was unleashed. Xie Lian got up and held his sword to the people, telling them, that they will not be affected by Human Face Disease if they pierce him with the blade. They started squabbling and Fang Xin was lost in the commotion.[6] After malicious ghosts attacked, Xie Lian noticed it was in the hand of Wuming, who let the curse consume him, leaving behind only Fang Xin and a white flower.[7]

After the death of Fang Xin Guoshi the sword was kept for a few hundred years by Lang Qianqiu. He returned it to Xie Lian after the Banyue incident, asking for a fight which he ends up losing.[2]

However, the former owner, Jun Wu takes Fang Xin back and uses the sword to fight against Hua Cheng in Tonglu Mountain.[8]

Trivia[]

  • Fang Xin also translates to "Affection of a young woman".
  • On the first occasion Xie Lian and Hua Cheng’s spiritual weapons meet, Ruoye and Eming act competitively, however, Fangxin is described as remaining “somber and unmoving”[9]. It’s not know if Fangxin actually can’t react, or if it just has no time for the much younger spiritual weapons and their trifling business.
