Clothes Redder than Maple, Skin White as Snow II (衣红胜枫肤白若雪, Yī Hóng Shèng Fēng Fū Báiruòxuě) is the 14th chapter of the Heaven Official's Blessing novel.
Summary[]
Xie Lian asks where Hua Cheng's title "Crimson Rain Sought Flower" comes from. The youth tells him he gained it after protecting a lone flower from the blood rain with his umbrella. Xie Lian continues to ask if he likes to pick fights, what he was like before death and ultimately what he looks like.
The boy asks him in return what he thinks Hua Cheng looks like. While Xie Lian is sure he must have many forms, he does think Hua Cheng is probably a youth as well. The youngster neither denies or agrees, but he does tell Xie Lian that Hua Cheng dug his own eye out in a moment of madness.
Xie Lian presses on to know Hua Cheng's weakness, the youth explaining that like for all ghosts, it's his ashes. When a ghost's ashes are destroyed, the ghost will be forcibly removed from the world, but there is actually a tradition where a ghost voluntarily gifts their ashes to their most beloved person.
Xie Lian notices that even though they've talked for so long, he doesn't even know the youth's name. Because he's the third child in the family, he introduces himself as San Lang. Xie Lian also introduces himself and asks where he's going, but San Lang doesn't know yet. Xie Lian offers him half of a steamed bun and they share it together.
Suddenly the ox cart comes to a stop. The sun has set and they're still deep in the woods. The driver screams after he sees ghosts approaching them and Xie Lian quickly uses Ruoye to create a protection circle San Lang confirms it's Zhongyuan Festival, alarming Xie Lian since they will never return if they choose the wrong path tonight.
