Side Story: Blossoming Hua Xie (番外篇：花开花谢, Fānwài Piān: Huā Kāi Huā Xiè) is the 50th chapter of the manhua based on the Heaven Official's Blessing novel written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. It was published on the 16th of January 2021.
Summary[]
The chapter takes place 200 years ago. Xie Lian is collecting scraps in a village near the border of Banyue and Yong'an when he notices Yong'an soldiers recruiting a young boy for the army. He makes an attempt to leave, but gets hold up by one of the soldiers and is quickly recruited into the army as well. Later he is sitting with the other soldiers who are all eating. Just when Xie Lian wants to start eating as well, bandits attack and the other soldiers get up, causing sand to ruin his meal. He helps defeating the attackers before returning to the cook, but there is no food left.
At night, Xie Lian tries to cook himself something. The smell of it is so bad that other soldiers come up and kick the food over. Xie Lian notices a little girl eating the cooking that was spilled on the ground and when he sees her choking, he runs a few laps while holding her upside down to make her vomit it out again. She still tries to eat what she threw up, so Xie Lian gives her his last rations. She cries, still throwing up his cooking from earlier.
